On August 28th, 2026, Gerry Beckley of the band America will release a new solo studio album titled "Merciful". The latest preview of the record is a rendition of The Beatles’ “Norwegian Wood”, a collaboration with Graham Nash.

“I’ve always loved the song”, says Beckley in a statement. “Playing it in DADGAD gave it a different character, and when I was listening back, it just seemed custom made for Graham’s voice”. The collaboration between the two legends came about after a chance reunion between the pair at the Sydney Opera House following one of Nash’s performances.

“Graham’s one of my true heroes going back to his days with the Hollies”, Beckley adds. “When this recording came together, I knew he would bring something special to it”.

The record has also been previewed with a song called “When the Wells Run Dry”. The song was written by Beckley with longtime collaborator Jeff Larson.

“I consider that mix of light and dark my signature sound”, said Beckley. “So much of rock is based on youth and rebellion, but as songwriters, we get to move those boundaries around as we age”.

"Merciful" was produced by Beckley and Larson and mostly recorded in Beckley’s home studios in Sydney, Australia, and Venice, California. Beckley played most of the instruments throughout its songs, joined in the studio by Jason Scheff, bass, Nate Strasser, piano, Matt Combs, strings, Steve Fekete and Dave Rosser, guitars, Nick Lane, horns, James Valentine, saxophonist, Larson, backing vocals, and drummers Ryland Steen, Luke Davison and Brian Young.

The songs on the album are a mix of new material, finished versions of previously unfinished compositions and old ideas rediscovered by Beckley since he stepped back from touring with America alongside co-founding member Dewey Bunnell in 2023.

“For the last few years, we’ve been going back through the archives to see if there were songs that could be improved”, said Beckley. “These days, since I’ve stepped back from touring, I’ve been coming up with lots of new material”.
