"We recorded Los Lobos' 'Will The Wolf Survive?' in Italy, February 2023. I’ve always loved it, particularly David Hildago’s vocal performance. He has the most beautiful tenor voice that sounds so plaintive on the original. I tried to keep that quality with my own performance and found that the song is deceptively difficult to sing. It was such an honor when Joel Guzman agreed to play accordion on the record. His playing and presence on the song took it to another level. Louie Pérez and David Hildago have talked about the song being about sustaining their cultural identity while seeking recognition and success within the music industry. The beautiful imagery of the wolf running across a frozen lake, struggling to simply survive, is such a powerful image, the perfect metaphor for their challenge as well as the broader search so many have in seeking a better life. Of course, now, within the current darkness and hostility of the cruel immigration policies in US, the song lyrics are even more poignant. I had no idea, when we recorded the song in 2023 just how ugly and shameful the situation would become in my country. It’s made me all the happier to highlight this incredible song with my own version. I’m curious how it will be received." ~ Eileen Rose
