“A ‘two is one’ kind of unified, energetic, musical core which manifests warmth, calmness, joy, and potency. A beautiful surprise to experience!” ~ Bill Bourne
“It’s like finding lost Shakespeare.” ~ Stew Kirkwood
Wendy Gregson & Renee McLachlan are a mother daughter duo out of Edmonton, Alberta, Canada. They are known for their stunning harmonies, soul stirring lyrics, and a fresh, heartfelt take on contemporary folk. Their sound blends acoustic guitar, guitalele, violin, and cello into a moving musical experience that resonates deeply with audiences. On stage, Wendy and Renee share the joys and challenges of their mother daughter bond, inviting laughter, tears, and a sense of shared humanity through song and story.
Wendy, originally from British Columbia, Canada, has been writing and performing since her teens. Her daughter Renee grew up inspired by her mother’s musical path, but never imagined joining her on stage. That changed in 2013, when a series of life altering events led them to make music together, turning their collaboration into a powerful source of healing and connection.
In 2018, they released their debut EP and began performing at festivals across British Columbia and Alberta, including a CBC Radio Music event (AB), New Moon Folk Club (AB), and Peach Festival (BC). A highlight in their journey was co-writing a song with the late Bill Bourne, which they performed at Edmonton’s Heart Of The City Festival.
By Jan. 2025, the duo received an Alberta Foundation For The Arts grant to record a new album of original music. The result is “Mother Tree”, a deeply personal and poetic album to be released in Europe in the summer of 2026. Joining them for this album is the producer himself, Stew Kirkwood, as well as Jeremiah McDade, (Juno Award recipient) and the string quartet, Ian Woodman, Shannon Johnson, Jen Bustin and Leanne Maitland.
Included on the album is the song “A Voice Not Withstood”, with lyrics written by Wendy’s grandmother, in 1945, which Wendy put to music in 2013. It is now performed by the duo and two granddaughters (spanning 5 generations).
