In 1975, Neil Young released his 6th studio album, the final full length entry in his so called “Ditch Trilogy”, the stela of his defining early 1970's discography that also yielded "Time Fades Away" and "On The Beach", "Tonight’s The Night". To commemorate 5 decades of spinning songs like “Come On Baby Let’s Go Downtown”, “Roll Another Number (For The Road)”, the title track, and other enduring classics that defined the era and seared Shakey’s history into lyrics, the musician will issue "Tonight’s The Night 50th Anniversary Edition" on November 28th, 2025, complete with 6 bonus tracks.
The imminent and limited edition anniversary offering presents original versions of songs recorded during the initial 1973 album sessions which took place at S.I.R. in Los Angeles. Whereas the initial record handed listeners a take on “Lookout Joe” that was tracked at Young’s Northern California Broken Arrow Studio, the new collections aims to piece history together and provide listeners with exemplary samples of the recording process during this period of Young’s career which trailed the commercial success of 1972’s "Harvest".
The anniversary release will roll out 6 bonus tracks that have not dropped to the public, including “Lookout Joe” and “Walk On”, as well as “Tonight’s The Night (Take 3)”, “Everybody’s Alone”, “Speak Out Jam", which was released on the "Neil Young Archives Vol II" box, and Joni Mitchell featured “Raised On Robbery”. Filling out the 6th slot is “Wonderin’”, which has previously only been available to stream on the 'Neil Young Archives'.
According to the press release, “This is the 1st time all 6 bonus tracks from the original sessions have been available on vinyl, making this the most cohesive and true version of 'Tonight’s The Night'.”
