The day before yesterday, Jesper Lindell released his interpretation of “Whicha Way Did It Go”, one of the songs he recorded at Royal Studios in Memphis in the fall of 2024. Together with his band, Brunnsvik Sounds, he traveled to the USA to get closer to the roots and the environments that have shaped the sound that has long been his musical compass.
Whether it is his own material or interpretations, Jesper Lindell always carries the songs with his unique and timeless expression and here he highlights “Whicha Way Did It Go”, an almost forgotten original by Pops Staples from The Staple Singers, which in Jesper's version gets new life. It is produced by Björn Pettersson, Rasmus Fors and Jesper Lindell, with Boo Mitchell as technician and mixing engineer.
Raised in Ludvika, Sweden, Jesper Lindell took his first steps on the local scene, where his love for classic American songwriting and the warm, analog sound of the 60's and 70's grew.
His big break came with the EP “Little Less Blue”, recorded together with First Aid Kit. Since then, he has established himself as one of Sweden’s most interesting voices in the genre, with an ability to combine soul, rock and Americana into his own, distinctive expression.
Today, Jesper Lindell is an obvious name on the Scandinavian soul rock scene, where influences from Van Morrison and The Band meet a sound that is completely his own.
“Whicha Way Did It Go” is taken from his upcoming album, “Royal”, which will be released on June 26th, 2026.
