“Seven albums strong and Washington DC resident David Massey continues to represent some of the best hidden gems that can be found in contemporary singer songwriter music” ~ Paul McGee, Lonesome Highway, Ireland
David Massey has released 7 CDs over his 22 year recording career. A recent bout of writer’s block (or possibly just laziness) led him to look back at his 1st 2 records, “Blissful State Of Blue” (2004) and “So Many Roads” (2009), neither of which had the benefit of professional promotional support.
So David decided to re-release a number of songs from those 1st 2 records. Given the arrival of baseball season and the absence of any actual hits in the 15 tracks he selected, David decided to call the collection “Early Cuts” (Swings and Misses)”.
"Early Cuts" includes country flavored rock, bluegrass flavored country, straight ahead rock, and wistful, sometimes heartbreaking, folk ballads. The Washington DC area musicians supporting the songs are superb, and Massey’s lyrics may make you laugh out loud or cry, or sometimes both during the same song.
“Think J.J. Cale cruising across the desert with his arm out the window of a classic Mustang. A tight trio playing a hybrid of country and blues and, on the fabulous 'Rio Lagarto', a touch of mariachi.” ~ Sean McGhee, Rock'N'Reel Magazine, UK
