Sigvard & The Bonewhispers

"This band has everything it takes, incredibly skilled musicians, world class lyrics and performance! It felt like embarking on a journey through the lyrics, sometimes full of darkness and misery, yet uplifting
and positive. Presence, chemistry, charisma, this radiated from the stage to us in the audience and invited us in. We became like one big family together!" ~ Tomas Nilsson, a veteran booker in the music industry, describes the band after a performance in Helsingborg in 2024

Swedish band Sigvard & The Bonewhispers releases their 2nd album, an emotional journey through darkness, light, and everything in between. The project began at the end of 2023 when the band gathered at Fäladsgården in Lund to record the basic tracks. Jonas, or Joppe as he's called, arrived, in the true manner of an eccentric singer songwriter, several hours late, hypomanic, with a brand new handwritten song in his pocket. The song, titled "Deep Water", was recorded on the spot and is included on the album along with 8 other tracks, some newly written, and others that the band has been performing live for a few years.

For example, the title track, is a long time live favorite that the band has longed to immortalize. Since the debut album "The Ballad Of St Catherine Of Clare" was released in 2023, the band has worked hard, both on stage and in the studio, to further develop their unique version of americana music. Their style is inspired by American singer songwriters, beatnik poets, and the melancholic Swedish song tradition, which the band themselves call hippie noir.

Th new album, "The Land Of The Midnight Sun", is a collection of songs that pulls the listener directly into the songwriter's world, filled with sorrow and mental health struggles, but also with adventure and love. Joppe, with his expressive vocal style and weathered, lamenting voice, is a troubadour in the truest sense of the word. He tells stories of his vulnerability, strength, doubts, hopes, and his eternal longing for love, meaning, and belonging.

Musically, The Bonewhispers have expanded their sound, taking on new expressions, but they are still a band of strings from guitar, violin, mandolin, banjo, lap steel, pedal steel, and vocal harmonies. On this album, they seamlessly move between country, folk, rockabilly, blues, and rock in their own distinctive way, led by Lars 'Mr Bonewhisper' Brandström’s sensitive fingertips. The backbone of the band, Mats Brandström on drums and Olof Broberg on bass, keeps the rhythm and groove alive. New violinist Goran Petrovski, from the band Kustvägen, joined towards the end of the project, but managed to lay down one of his characteristic solos on "Go To War", a track that also features Hedvig Wieslander on cello.

Producer Patrik Magnusson has carefully carved out a stripped down, Scandinavian sound where the vocals are highlighted, but the instruments also take turns to spread out and shine. Danish Morten Bue handled the mastering. As guest musicians, once again the Chilean harmonica virtuoso Martín 'Armonica' Poblete, acclaimed folk musician Samuel Lundström on violin, and Lars Nilsson on keyboard were invited.

Sigvard & The Bonewhispers' new single, "Bang Your Drum (Go To War)", is out today, April 25th, 2025, on all download and streaming sites. The forthcoming album, "The Land Of The Midnight Sun", will be available on August 29th, 2025.
