Yesterday, February 5th, 2026, Jesper Lindell & Brunnsvik Sounds released their interpretation of Dan Penn's "If Love Was Money", taken from the album "3614 Jackson Highway", which will be released on March 6th.
"We had a 3 day drive from Boston down to Muscle Shoals and were still looking for songs to record. The closer we got to Alabama, the more I realized that I kept returning to songs written by Dan Penn. We started listening to his solo album from 1972, which I had not known before, and I fell completely in love. I could have recorded almost every song from that album, but the last track, 'If Love Was Money', felt like something me and the band could really have fun with".
In the fall of 2024, Jesper Lindell took his band, Brunnsvik Sounds, on a musical pilgrimage across the Atlantic to explore the roots of the music that shaped him. The trip took them to 2 of the world's most iconic recording studios. Muscle Shoals Sound Studio in Alabama and Royal Studios in Memphis, TN. Due to flight delays, the band arrived over a day late, which shortened their time in the studio from 2 days to just 1½.
Despite the time pressure, everything fell into place as soon as the technology was set up. A creative rush ensued, fueled by pent up energy, joy of playing, jet lag and the awe of being in the same room as legends such as The Rolling Stones, Lynyrd Skynyrd, Duane Allman, Paul Simon, Staples Singers, Willie Nelson and Cat Stevens.
With two days booked at each studio, the band managed to record material for 2 full length albums in a total of 4 days. The 1st of these is "3614 Jackson Highway", a collection of songs all originally recorded in Muscle Shoals.
Born and raised in Ludvika, Sweden, Jesper Lindell began his career on the local scene, playing soul, rock, roots and r'n'b in bars and rehearsal rooms. It was there that he developed a deep respect for classic American songwriting and the warm, analog sounds of the 60's and 70's. His breakthrough EP "Little Less Blue" was recorded with members of First Aid Kit and showcased a rare expressive voice and a natural fingerstyle for fusing retro soul with modern Americana.
