- Robert Ryttman / Zero Magazine -

"Son Of The Velvet Rats’ new album, 'Ghost Ranch', was recorded at Red Barn Recorders in Morongo Valley, CA, and co-produced by Gar Robertson with Jay Bellerose on drums and Jennifer Condos on bass. It features Jolie Holland on backing vocals and violin. Marc Ribot guests on electric guitar."

- Kenneth Bremer / Blue Desert -

"Son Of The Velvet's musical ideal is more for people who prefer their music to appeal to the mind and not the feet. While not everything will grab you by the lapels, much will tug at your ears. This album is filled with vocal imagination, rather than guitar solos, piano runs and drum solos. And sometimes that’s all that’s needed."

- John Apice / Americana Highways -

"While you can trace influences (Thin White Rope, Bob Dylan, Lou Reed, Richard Thompson) both musically and lyrically, Son OF The Velvet Rat remain totally unique and, as evidenced here, they simply continue to get better. 'Ghost Ranch' is unquestionably an album of the year."

- Mike Davies / K.L.O.F. Magazine -

"If you are new to the music of the artistic couple in Son Of The Velvet Rat then this album is as good a place as any to start your love affair. Highly recommended!"

- Paul McGee / Lonesome Highway -

"Son Of The Velvet Rat is a band that consists of Georg Altziebler and his wife Heike Binder, whom left their birthplace Graz, Austria about 10 years ago and moved to the Joshua Tree in California, USA. Their latest album, 'Ghost Ranch', which musically speaking, is a mix of fragile neo folk chanson, dark americana, singer songwriter and a bit of garage rock. Mostly on the calm dark side, it’s an album that might appeal to fans of Leonard Cohen, Lou Reed, Bob Dylan, Townes van Zandt and such."

- Gabor Kleinbloesem / Strutterzine -

"The roots of the folk noir band Son Of The Velvet Rat are situated in Graz, Austria, but singer songwriter Georg Altziebler and his wife Heike Binder moved in 2013 to the Mojave Desert in Joshua Tree, California. There they cooperated with producer Joe Henry for their fantastic 2017 album 'Dorado' which was followed by a live album 'The Late Show' in 2018 and studio record 'Solitary Company' in 2021. Now they have finally returned with a magnificent new, must have, album called 'Ghost Ranch' on which guitarist Marc Ribot and folk and country singer Jolie Holland have exquisitely contributed."
