Michael Menager

Born east of Los Angeles, schooled in the San Francisco Bay Area during the 1960's, Michael Menager came of age during the political upheaval of those times. Studying literature at university, Michael immersed himself in the writing of Chaucer, Shakespeare and John Donne, as well as writers and poets of the Beat Generation, such as Jack Kerouac and Allen Ginsberg.

Starting in high school, Michael studied and absorbed the styles of classic folk and blues artists like Mississippi John Hurt and Reverend Gary Davis, and has been greatly influenced by the likes of Bob Dylan, Tom Waits, John Prine and Townes Van Zandt.

Michael’s 1st 2 albums, "Clean Exit" in 2014, and "Not The Express" in 2016, are musical portraits from a traveller who has worn many hats along the way, yet always remained a student and seeker. The style is classic americana, country blues, hints of folk and bluegrass, touches of jazz and early rock'n'roll, and the lyrics blend philosophy and poetry, telling of roads travelled and life lived, the occasional victories, and the defeats from which we must somehow rise again.

Singles from "Line In The Water" Michael’s 3rd and new album, produced by Heath Cullen, have streamed worldwide and featured on the Australian Music Radio Airplay Project’s Regional Chart and on blues, roots and country playlists across Australia.

The songs in "Line In The Water" are sung with a heartfelt and intimate voice and resonate with timeless immediacy. They are reflections on life, people, places, and changing consciousness, sometimes distilling the big picture down to basics and sometimes using the ordinary to illustrate a much larger story.

In the words of one writer, Robert M Gardner at theatricus.com, “There is a richness in Menager’s lyrics that bears returning to over time, depths there to be mined”.

And the road goes on!
